Be sure to read to the end and then call to learn what we have to offer for your Hawaiian vacation rental.

Surfing

Whether you are a beginner surfer, or you have been an avid surfer your whole life, you know that a becalmed ocean is never enjoyable for those who want to surf. If you are hoping to come during the perfect time when the waves are breaking set after set, then you want to plan your Hawaiian trip for the winter months, especially in December and January, when the biggest waves tend to hit the north shores of all of our islands. For those of you who are true beginners, be sure to stick to the south sides of the islands, or plan your vacation during the summer months when waves are calmer.

Snorkeling and Swimming

If snorkeling and swimming are more your speed, then you definitely want to plan your Hawaiian vacation during the summer when the waters are warmer, the waves are calmer, and the skies are sunnier. These conditions all make for the best viewing experiences when you are snorkeling. In fact, you can snorkel and swim year round, but if you are looking for the ideal time to fully enjoy either of these activities, then make sure to book your trip during the summer months and call Aloha Vacation Villas to book your Hawaiian vacation rental today.

Hiking

It is no secret that Hawaii has a multitude of gorgeous hiking trails that are suitable for all ages and abilities. Whether you want to explore the mountains, or hike near the coastline, you will find the perfect trails to enjoy. Summer is once again the best month to plan your trip if hiking is high on your list of things to do, given that there are more daylight hours and the trails tend to be drier. Be sure to pack plenty of water and sunscreen, as it does get pretty hot here during the summer.

Whale Watching

Each year, whales make the journey from Alaska to Hawaii to give birth to their calves during the winter months. The best time to plan your visit is between the months of February and April as this is peak season for them to be seen. Make sure to travel to our western shores for the best opportunities to spend your time whale watching, and don’t forget to fully charge your phone so that you can take pictures and videos to your heart’s content.

At Aloha Vacation Villas, we know just how special your time in Hawaii will be, and that is why we want to help you make the most of it by offering the best hawaiian vacation rentals for your enjoyment. The Beaches

The beach is one of our favorite spots at which to spend time, and we know that many people will agree with us that beaches are incredibly relaxing environments. Hawaii’s beaches are some of the most spectacular in the world. While there are plenty of beaches with the type of sand that you would expect to see, there are also beaches with black sand. Waianapanapa State Park has granules of sand that are pitch black and were created when the surf pounded on a fresh lava flow. If you’ve never set foot on a black sand beach, then you need to be careful if you choose to walk barefoot, as it gets much hotter than white sand.

The Culture

Hawaii has one of the most ethnically diverse populations and culture of any of the states. You will find influences from many foreign cultures in addition to the Hawaiian culture. The Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Samoan, and Spanish are just a few of the cultures that deeply influenced and shaped Hawaii into the amazing place that it is today. With all of these outside influences, you will be pleased to know that the Hawaiian culture is still alive and well. It is not uncommon to hear people speaking in Hawaiian in the grocery store, and many of the streets, cities, and beaches still retain their Hawaiian names.

The Weather

For those of you who live in places where winter can be brutal, you will probably smile when you hear that Hawaii does indeed have a winter season. While it is nothing like what you experience, you will probably notice that the natives bundle up, as 75 degrees is a little chilly for them when the average year-round temperature is 85. If you live somewhere that experiences a true winter season with lots of snow and ice, then you will enjoy our winter season in Hawaii with temperatures that will seem quite balmy in comparison.

There are countless reasons why you should visit Hawaii, and we will continue this discussion in our next post. When you are ready to come to our beautiful island, be sure to contact Aloha Vacation Villas to learn about the variety of Hawaiian vacation rentals that we offer and then reserve yours today!

People around the world enjoy hiking for a variety of reasons. In fact, many people choose destination vacations for the hiking opportunities afforded in that area. Maui has many stunningly beautiful trails to offer, from easy hikes for beginners to advanced trails for the more experienced hiker. Hiking provides a wide array of benefits such as peace of mind, physical activity, fun with friends and family, and enjoying the beauty of nature. Maui has many beautiful trails from which to choose. Kapalua Bay Villas offers the opportunity to rent a vacation home in close proximity to all of these stunning hiking opportunities. Read on to see four of the best hiking trails Maui has to offer and check out our vacation rentals available in Maui.

‘Iao Valley State Park

‘Iao Valley State Park is located in central Maui and boasts easy walks that are well suited for both kids and older people. It is dramatically scenic and claims the title of the second wettest place in Hawai’i. The main attraction is the ‘Iao needle which is a high peak created by the erosion of the softer rock around it. This valley is sacred and was once forbidden to all but Hawaiian royalty. After you cross the footbridge, you can choose to head up the trail to the ‘Iao Needle Observation deck, or down towards the stream for a short nature loop with many informal trails. After hiking in the second wettest place in Hawai’i, come back to your Maui vacation rental at Kapalua Bay Villas, dry off, relax, and enjoy a nap. Contact us today to book your vacation.

Twin Falls, North Shore

Just a 20-minute drive east of the historic town of Paia on Maui’s North Shore, Twin Falls is the perfect hike for those traveling with children. Located easily off of the Hana Highway, you can book a guided tour or easily navigate the trail on your own. Some of the attractions include different waterfalls and freshwater swimming holes. Make sure you have more than just your flip-flops with you as the trails are paved simply with gravel and dirt. Some other items to make sure you have on hand are bathing suits and towels, as well as bug spray if mosquitoes tend to find you when you are outside. Last but not least, pack some snacks and extra drinking water. You may find that you want to linger longer than you had planned.

Halemauu Trail

Halemauu Trail is the perfect hike both for those looking for a comfortable yet scenic adventure, and for those visitors who are up for a challenge. Halemauu Trail is located inside of Haleakala National Park. One of the nice features of this trail system is that you can choose to do a short 2.2 mile round-trip hike to the edge of Haleakala’s rim and back, or you could use this as a jumping off point for a challenging, yet rewarding 11.2 mile hike. Make sure to take the elevation gain into account as you plan for your hike. The trail increases by 2,345 feet in elevation over the course of the hike. This path is through much of the Haleakala wilderness. One recommendation if you choose to start your hike from the summit is to make sure to catch a ride back to the visitor center with another park visitor, since you had to park your vehicle near the trailhead.

Waihou Spring Trail

Waihou Spring Trail is a lightly trafficked loop located near Makawao Hawai’i that features a waterfall and is moderate in difficulty. There is a side trail that leads down to Waihou Spring. The trail is a comfortable distance at just a 1.8 mile loop. A nice factor is that it is accessible year-round. One of the most attractive features for hikers is the lava tubes and waterfalls. Make sure to wear layers for this hike as it is upcountry and can be quite a bit chillier. While the trail is relatively easy, keep an eye on the weather as rain can cause parts of it to become slick and slippery. After your hike in this beautiful forest, you can look forward to unwinding in the comfort of your Maui vacation rental at Kapalua Bay Villas. Contact us today to schedule your vacation rental.

Sunscreen

Being protected from the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays starts with having a sunblock that can sufficiently provide you with coverage that lasts throughout the day. While there are many variations of sunscreen available, SPF 30 or SPF 45 sunblock should thoroughly protect you from potential sunburns. According to the EPA, SPF 30 effectively blocks 97 percent of the sun’s UVB rays, while SPF 45 blocks 99 percent of UVB rays. For total coverage, consider a sunscreen that markets itself as “broad-spectrum,” as these specialized formulas are designed to protect your skin from UVA rays as well.

Multiple Swimsuits

If you’re traveling to Hawaii, there is a good chance that you plan on soaking up the sun on the beach, swimming in the ocean, or relaxing poolside. Given the amount of time it takes for a swimsuit to dry, we recommend packing multiple swimsuits in your luggage. Packing extra swimming gear will allow you to have a dry swimsuit while your wet swimsuit dries, and will ensure that you never have to put on a wet swimsuit again.

Formal Clothing

Kapalua is home to regional gourmet cuisine available from a variety of upscale restaurants. For this reason, we suggest that you pack a formal outfit that you can wear during a night of fine dining. To ensure that you’re packing an appropriate wardrobe for formal dining, plan in advance by researching the restaurant’s atmosphere and mood via their website. More times than not, a restaurant’s website will have pictures of guests with their meals which will give you a better idea as to which attire is most appropriate.

Sunglasses

If you suffer from light sensitivity and experience the headaches that can come with it, sunglasses should be at the top of your list of essentials to pack. Since you will likely spend most of your time around water while visiting Hawaii, you should consider investing in a pair of polarized sunglasses. Polarized sunglasses are incredibly efficient at neutralizing the glare that bounces off of reflective surfaces like water, decreasing the chances that you will experience the headaches or eye strain that comes with the sun’s brightness.
